Evidence of attainment:
4.1 Support student participation
- To encourage all students to participate in class activities, I introduced a positive mindset where they are reminded to have a growth mindset rather than a fixed mindset. We discussed the difference and the benefits of having a growth mindset can have on their learning. Students feel safe and comfortable in this learning environment where everyone has a go and learns from making mistakes. Class Dojo mindset videos have been used to emphasis this as well.
- During shared reading, all students participate because I plan specific questions planned to differentiate reading levels (VH, H, L, VL). Also, for the students who are not yet independent reading, they follow along with audio books so they are included in the independent reading responses.
4.2 Manage classroom activities
- At the beginning of each term, all routines and expectations for the classroom are discussed. There is a daily schedule used for all students to view what they will be learning throughout the day. There are also a list of class jobs and every student has a responsibility to complete their allocated job.
- There is a reading log for the classroom library to manage all books borrowed throughout the week.
4.3 Manage challenging behaviour
- In my classroom, we have established a Class Dojo reward system that has been used to manage challenging behaviour. Students collect their dojos and then are able to cash in their dojos for a range of rewards at any time.
- Bucket filling was introduced in term 2 to manage the positive talk between students in my class. Since we started using bucket filling, my students have made a huge improvement with the way they speak to one another.
- Mr Potato Head was introduced in term 2 as a way to encourage all students to work as a team. We have a class goal and once they get 10 ticks the class can put on a piece of Mr Potato Head. Once they have completed Mr Potato Head then we celebrate by rewarding the whole class with hot potato chips.
- As a school, we follow the School Wide Positive Behaviour System that involves using an arrow chart. The four steps on the arrow chart are reminder, reflection time, teacher choice and contact home. All teachers at my school use the arrow chart consistently for any behaviours that do not follow school rules. This is followed by a 6:1 positive ratio where for every 1 negative there are 6 positives.
- Zero tolerance is a school process in place where any student who shows major disruptive, inappropriate or unsafe behaviours are sent to the office.
4.4 Maintain student safety
- Our classroom follows the school rules and agree at the start of the year what these rules look like in our classroom. Students sign an 'eagle contract' and this is referred to when rules are not followed.
- During excursions, students are supervised by the teachers, LSOs or parents to ensure their safety.
- Yard duty rules and expectations are followed to maintain all students' safety in the school.
4.5 Use ICT safely, responsibly and ethically
- During e-smart week the whole school planned a range of literacy/ICT lessons to teach students about how to be safe online. My students watched NetSmart ebooks and Hector's World, read Digiduck's Big Decision and completed the Digital Licence Quiz online.
- I post SeeSaw notes about using the site responsibility and ensuring that students are being responsible when posting images.
- During term 4, we have planned a 'Digital Citizens' inquiry unit where students will learn about how to keep safe online.
