Evidence of attainment:
6.1 Identify and plan professional learning needs
- At the beginning of term 3, I identified some areas for improvement and created two personal goals that would develop my skills as a teacher. With assistance from my principal, I was able to plan how I was going to achieve my goals and the actions to put into place. This process helped me to reflect on my teaching and think about my strengths and weaknesses.
6.2 Engage in professional learning and improve practice
- The professional learning that I have engaged in this year has been:
- Google conference - GAFE (introduced me to Google Classroom, SeeSaw, Kahoot)
- Visible learning - John Hattie (learned about effect size, assessment, dispositions etc.)
- SAMs - Maths closure day (created scope and sequence)
6.3 Engage with colleagues and improve practice
- This year, I have approached many of my experienced colleagues for assistance or guidance on various areas of my teaching. My mentor Lara has helped me a great deal with literacy and has provided me with professional reading articles to help me extend my knowledge and skills. I have observed the maths coordinator teach my class a lesson that I needed support with and we discussed the strategies that I can use moving forward. There has been walk-throughs conducted by leadership to provide feedback on learning intentions and success criteria which has helped me be aware of areas that I can improve on.

6.4 Apply professional learning and improve student learning
- As a part of my inquiry approach for VIT, I have engaged in professional readings and conversations and applied my learning to help me address my inquiry questions: 'How will I build my students' language of collaboration in order to improve the learning culture in my classroom?' After completing a Visible Learning Impact Cycle PL, I gathered evidence and collected work samples related to learning dispositions to find my focus area. The students' self-assessments helped me realise that collaboration was a focus area that needed to be taught explicitly. I found teaching strategies and resources to assist my teaching of collaboration and found an improvement after six weeks in my students' ability to work collaboratively with others. My students learned the appropriate language to use when working in groups and this helped them complete group tasks more effectively.
